UNN Warns Against Certificate Scam – Official Statement

University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) has issued a warning against an online certificate

scam, discrediting a Facebook post promoting fraudulent certificate collection. The

University only releases certificates to the legitimate owners on the presentation of

clearance papers. It urges the public and alumni to beware of fraudsters, emphasizing it

will not be accountable for money lost to such scams.

The attention of the Registry Office, Careers and Students Service Unit at UNN
was recently drawn to a Facebook post that encourages students to pay into a
certain bank account to receive their certificates via waybill. This unscrupulous
post is an attempt to exploit unsuspecting individuals, particularly alumni and
members of the public, by presenting a fraudulent method of obtaining
certificates from the university.

The University Authority, however, has been quick to respond to this
fraudulent post and clarify the official procedures for obtaining certificates.
They have emphasized that under no circumstances does the university
release certificates to anyone except the legitimate owners. Furthermore,
certificate owners must present proper clearance papers before their
certificates are released to them.

The UNN has thus cautioned its alumni and the general public to beware of
such fraudsters posing as representatives of the university. The University
Authority reiterated that it will not be held accountable for any money paid to
these anonymous individuals or groups.

Internet fraud is a severe issue, and the university is committed to protecting
its students, alumni, and the public. It is advised that individuals verify all
information before making any form of payment or disclosing personal
information online.

For any inquiries or to report suspicious activities, you should contact the
University of Nigeria Nsukka directly. Be alert, be safe, and always verify
information from credible sources to protect yourself from falling victim to
scams.
